According to the Human Rights Campaign, many Americans don’t talk about sexual orientation and gender expression identity because they’re afraid of saying the wrong thing. If you want to learn more so you can become more comfortable and confident in your conversations, check out their glossary of terms!

LGBTQIA+ health care at Teen and Young Adult Health Centers:

We’re proud to provide quality, affordable health care specially designed to fit the needs of our LGBTQIA+ patients. Our clinicians and behavioral health specialists at the Teen and Young Adult Health Center specialize in understanding the physical and mental health needs of young people in the LGBTQIA+ community.

No matter what your sexual orientation or gender identity may be, you will be welcomed and treated with respect, compassion and dignity.

We offer the following and more for LGBTQIA+ patients:

Behavioral Health Services and Support
If needed, we can help you access behavioral health services and other resources and services outside of Teen and Young Adult Health Centers. We offer counseling in English and Spanish, and counseling in other languages is available using interpreter services.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

If you think you might be at risk of contracting HIV, talk to us about pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP. PrEP is a pill that, when taken every day, helps prevent HIV infections by working to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection after exposure. HIV Testing and Treatment
We are equipped to help you through the process of HIV testing and, if needed, referral for treatment. Everyone who is sexually active should be tested for HIV at least once, since getting tested is the only way to know if you have HIV.

STD Testing and Treatment
We provide confidential STD testing and treatment, and our clinicians are able to counsel you about STD prevention. Getting tested is easy — most tests just require a urine sample. Call us if you have questions!

Hormone replacement therapy (transgender)
We are able to provide hormone replacement therapy for transgender individuals on a case-by-case basis. Our doctors will treat you before, during and after the transition process. If you wish to begin a medical transition process with hormones, you can inform your primary care provider at Teen and Young Adult Health Centers, and your provider will talk about your options with you.

If you are a transgender individual under age 19, we can provide you with puberty blockers. In order for us to help you begin a medical transition process with gender-affirming hormones, you will need to have parental consent.

If you are a transgender individual over age 19, we can help you begin an inexpensive medical transition process with gender-affirming hormones. You will be referred to OneWorld’s Alex Dworak, M.D., who is trained in hormone replacement therapy. Learn more about Dr. Dworak below.

Alex Dworak, M.D. (he, him, his)

Dr. Dworak sees TYAHC’s referrals for trans*/GNC (gender nonconforming) hormone care at OneWorld’s South Omaha campus (4920 S. 30th St.).

“Our mission is to provide excellent care with a special consideration for the underserved, and to decline to provide respectful, competent care to our LGBTQ+ patients (who are frequently marginalized and underserved in our city, state and country, to say nothing of our world)…would be an abdication of our mission.”

Specialties: Dr. Dworak has a particular passion for LGBTQIA+ health and has attended Continuing Medical Education on the subject at the University of California, San Francisco and at the Fenway Institute in association with Harvard Medical School. He provides OneWorld’s trans*/GNC (gender nonconforming) hormone care. He speaks English and Spanish.
